BIO

Federica Sasso, 1992, born in Vicenza and based in Milan, is a mixed-media visual artist and researcher. Her work examines human body perception, the virtual-real interplay and the impact of technology on contemporary life. Her approach delves into the contamination of photography, video, artificial intelligence and virtual reality. After a degree in Photography and Visual Arts at Istituto Italiano di Fotografia in Mlan she was selected for a scolarship at FABRICA, communication research centre of Benetton Group. Working with Fabrica's editorial department she developed the bodies of work Post-Adolescence (2016-2018) and Sick Sad Blue (2016-2017). These projects combine photography-based works with extracts from social media to explore the Gen Z fragmented universe focusing on stories of eating disorders and isolation. With the multimedia work Battle Royale (2019-2020) Sasso investigates the lack between self-awareness and the public image shared online addressing issues related to body language and gaming. Her latest works Antikhytera and DIVERGENCES explore the interaction between photography, video, VR and performance, encompassing the sensation of embodiment and human perception in a surrounding environment, alongside its reaction to external digital stimuli. Sasso's works have been shown in festivals and galleries including Ars Electronica (AT), Les Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles (FR), Thessaloniki Photography Biennal (GR), Landskrona Photo Festival (SE), Casa degli Artisti (IT), Fotografia Europea (IT) and PhotoVogue (IT). She took part in the two collective exhibition on the New Italian Photography Racconte-moi une historie at Institute of Culture Paris and Looking on at MAR Ravenna. She is the author of the photobook Sick Sad Blue (Fabrica, 2017) and has been selected among the 37 photographers to be featured in the book Up to Now. Fabrica Photography. which offers an overview on more than twenty years of visual research collected by the editorial department of Fabrica. In 2025, she founded alongside sound researcher Luca Pagan 4E Studio, an interdisciplinary practice exploring the relationship between the human body and technology. Their work investigates the creation of new senses and perceptions, redefining human experience design through an innovative use of new technologies. Sasso and Pagan collaborate with research lab, engineers and institutions including the Italian Institute of Technology (Rehab Technology Department), University of Genova (Robotics Department), University of Bologna (Computer Science Department), University of Milan (Philosophy Department).
